Luis Palau, along with 600 churches, organized more than 26,000 volunteers, totaling over 100,000 hours of work, to work on over 300 projects in Portland.

Five major needs had been identified and pointed out by the leaders of the city of Portland. The mayor declared a summer season of service and gave the city resources for the purpose. The summer work was accompanied by a weekend of concerts, family activities, and preaching by Luis Palau. 185,000 people were reached and 10,000 expressed their desire to become Christians. In all of this, the city leadership stood with Luis Palau in the effort.

This was Luis Palau’s hometown. One can assume that similar positive opportunities exist in many cities where the churches, through their various activities, have an open door to decision-makers in the city. A key to a successful venture was also the collaboration between so many churches.
